Description
My second-ever attempt at a charcoal drawing (first was a chess piece, but I can't find the drawing). This was drawn as an in-class assignment for my Drawing I class, in the fall of 2014. This was also my first experience drawing human anatomy. Drawing took approximately 3 hours to complete, and was drawn with vine and compressed charcoals, and worked over with a chamois to blur the background.
I was originally just going to draw the skull without the spine, but I found that the picture seemed slightly surreal without the supporting vertebrae, so I added the spine at the last moment. However, I did not have time to shade the vertebrae, and instead left them as flat white shapes.
